August 2010
Change the Channel
Submitted by admin on August 23, 2010 - 10:29pmDurhamCLEAR is engaged in 2 principal projects at the moment.
The first is the fight to stop the incinerator in Courtice. For that campaign we have a separate campaign website, DontGetBurned.org, from which you can send already addressed and formatted emails to various Ministers in the provincial government. Another aspect of this campaign is signs which read "Say NO to Incineration" which you can request for your front lawn by clicking HERE.
The 2nd project is a more general campaign to change the politics of Durham Region by electing candidates to local and Regional Councils who share our progressive views towards the environment. Every candidate in the Oct. 25 municipal election has received an extensive questionnaire on a wide range of environmental issues. Their answers are posted at DurhamElection2010.ca where everybody can read them. As of mid August more than 90 candidates have responded. In mid September we will post our ratings of the candidates
New Environment Minister appointed
Submitted by admin on August 23, 2010 - 9:50pmPremier Dalton McGuinty has seen fit to replace his Environment Minister.
John Wilkinson was most recently the Minister of Revenue where he most recently shepherded the HST into existence with virtually no backlash.
Whether his appointment is a good thing or not remains to be seen as he has virtually no track record on environmental issues. We can hope that this indicates a blank slate with a willingness to listen.
We are currently preparing letters for the DontGetBurned.org website which will be addressed to the new minister.
